Very nicely put. Yes, I agree. It is the positive thinking, the action we take, and the support systems we set up that will make us successful in this life, even when going through tough times. And yes, some of the basic messages are good and will keep us directed in the way we want to go, but it is so true that it is best "kept in a realistic context". I find that the process of growing and learning and dealing with life's issues, is exciting and challenging and has promoted feelings of pride for me as I discover what I can do that I might not have imagined years earlier. Thanks for your perspective!

I listened to the CD series of the Seceret many times over.

I believe there is much good in it. Yet, some of the things I can't quite connect with are:

1. The naieve simplicity that the author tries to convince us is typical. It simply is not. We cannot simply wish and exactly what we want comes to be. This puts esteem-crushing expectations on the wisher.

2. Ya, I too get tired of all of the emphasis on money. The claim that many people in the Bible were far richer than today's billionaires sounded completely ignorant. How could one ever know or measure and why does it even matter.

3. The author's claims that she and anyone else can stay thin while eating whatever they want by simply thinking thin thoughts.... well that had to be the fait du compli of false hope. And her referring to her 140 pound "hefty weight" must have been devastating to women battling weight and body image issues.

I will leave the disagreement at that because I do not want to just rant on.

I do believe that if we are predominantly positive, we will tend to attract more positive. And vice versa. And also that from time to time, in ways I cannot understand and that I do not feel anyone can explain reliably, some pretty huge and amazing things happen and hugely positive things come our way.

To extrapolate the rare occurrences into a linear formula for getting everything we want all the time.... well I will simply say that I do not see it in practice. Anywhere. I have seen some of the most thoroughly positive people go through health, financial, and relationship troubles.

Now, their positiveness has been key to them getting "through" versus under. And has helped them to rebuild or move on from the setback.

I feel the Secret teaching contains just enough truth to be believable and thereby sell lots of books, cds, and seminars.

Overall though.... I feel it is a positive set of teaching that can be helpful if it is kept in a realistic context.

Ciao.

Update -
It's taken two men 2 days with auger and a jack hammer to get through the rock and hard pan to set new posts for this fencing. (And we thought we could do this ourselves!) Today the cross beams go up and the fence posts will begin to be nailed in. What a project. New metal posts should not need to be replaced again. Yea!

"Walking through the fire, in order to burn away all that is unnecessary. . .with the faith that what is left is the essence of ME..." Love that visual. I think we constantly are burning off or peeling off what is not really us and attempting to get to the essence of who we are. This life is an exciting and challenging journey we take, when we have the courage to look under all that stuff and then love what has always been there, from the beginning.
